Gondwana
Caņon Park
Gondwana Cañon Park is the oldest nature reserve
within the Gondwana Desert Collection. Established in
1995, when the first farm was acquired, the park now
covers an area of 1,120 km². In the east it borders
on the Fish River Canyon, the second largest in the
world after the Grand Canyon in the US. The landscape
is characterised by the Nama Karoo desert system with
its typical stem succulents – such as the quiver
tree. After dismantling fences and reintroducing game
animals which had once been indigenous to the area,
the park has become the habitat of Mountain Zebra, Ostrich,
Springbok, Gemsbok, Hartebeest and even Giraffe. |
