ConceptPark Profile
  Gondwana Caņon Park
Gondwana Cañon Park is the oldest nature reserve within the Gondwana Desert Collection. Established in 1995, when the first farm was acquired, the park now covers an area of 1,120 km². In the east it borders on the Fish River Canyon, the second largest in the world after the Grand Canyon in the US. The landscape is characterised by the Nama Karoo desert system with its typical stem succulents – such as the quiver tree. After dismantling fences and reintroducing game animals which had once been indigenous to the area, the park has become the habitat of Mountain Zebra, Ostrich, Springbok, Gemsbok, Hartebeest and even Giraffe.

There are four accommodation establishments: Cañon Lodge (25 chalets, restaurant with historic ambience, terrace and swimming pool), Cañon Village (42 chalets in the Cape Dutch style, restaurant, terrace and swimming pool), Cañon Roadhouse (nine en-suite rooms, restaurant, swimming pool, petrol station and information centre as well as camping sites in a separate location) and Cañon Mountain Camp (eight en-suite rooms,

shared kitchen and lounge, terrace and barbecue facilities).

Guests can drive to the Fish River Canyon (20 km to the main lookout point), go for scenic flights and explore the park on hiking trails, on horseback or during scenic drives.

The accommodation facilities generate the funds needed for nature protection and at the same time create jobs and offer Namibians a chance for advancement.

Shaped like a horseshoe, the Gondwana Desert Route connects Gondwana Cañon Park with the other three parks of the Gondwana Desert Collection.

Discover the delights of the desert - with the Gondwana Desert Collection from Park to Park through Namibia’s south.
